Organic Foods: For Healthy and Happy Life

"Organically grown" food is food grown and processed using no synthetic fertilizers or pesticides. Pesticides derived from natural sources (e.g., biological pesticides) may also be used in producing organically grown food. Increasingly, some consumers are purchasing organically grown and processed foods as a way to reduce their exposure to synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. Many supermarkets now stock organic products for their consumers. Ask your grocer about organic food and its availability at your store.
Definition of “Organic” refers to food grown without synthetic pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, hormones, fertilizers or other synthetic or toxic substances.    No artificial flavors or colors have been added. Organic food does not include foods that have been irradiated orGenetically Modified Organisms (GMOs).
Organic food is produced by farmers who focus on using reusable resources and to conserve the soil and water so to ensure environmental quality for future generations.
Organic meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products come from animals that are given no antibiotics or growth hormones.
Organic food is produced without using most conventional pesticides, petroleum-based fertilizers, or sewage sludge-based fertilizers, bio-engineering, or ionizing radiation.

Organic foods of all kinds have nutritional characteristics similar to their conventionally produced counterparts. Essentially the same amount of protein, fat, carbohydrate, and dietary fiber in a glass of organic milk is found in a glass of milk produced non-organically,

Organic Healthy Eating:

Healthy eating is very vital in our health care. In addition to proper exercises, yoga, Pranayama, meditation and home remedy, healthy eating plays a very important role in increasing our physical energy and mental energy levels.
When it comes to eating healthy people think only about the quality of food that we eat. There are a few other aspects in healthy eating apart from this. Let us look at it comprehensively:

  1. The first and foremost is the quality. In these days of excess pesticides and fertilization, we need to give due importance to quality of food. It is better to err on the conservative side and buy our groceries, vegetables and fruits from good sources. We are glad that awareness on organic food and quality of food is increasing.
  2. The composition of the food as recommended by nutritional experts goes a long way in our health care. Enough carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, minerals etc., are important.
  3. Sticking to the correct timing for breakfast, lunch, and dinner is again crucial. We have seen most of the people seem to miss breakfast or hurried breakfast. This certainly has a bearing on the energy level.
  4. Chewing the food well and eating slow are very important for digestion as well as for avoiding overeating.
  5. Another aspect experts recommend is eating the same quantity of food divided into more intervals. In other words, it is better to eat 5 times a day instead of the usual 3 times, of course without increasing the overall quantity. This is indeed very useful for people having diabetes.
  6. Most of the religious practices involve fasting such as during Lent, RAMADAN, EKADESI etc. So occasional fasting also helps, but one needs do this after counseling with their doctors.
  7. Food supplements are also gaining more importance. This is a vast subject and we will be covering it over a period of time.
  8. Healthy Eating should also include Happy Eating. In other words, our thoughts and feelings should be happy while eating.
On the side of humour, we can add that one can eat light but cannot take his / her eating lightly.  It is not without reason billions of dollars are being spent on ‘healthy eating’.
