THE IMPORTANCE OF ORGANIC FOOD

Introduction of Organic Food:
Organic food, also referred to as organics, is food grown under a production system that, in addition to the
avoidance of synthetic chemicals, also promotes soil health, biodiversity, low stress treatment of animals
and sound environmental practices. The demand is growing, but what is contributing to this growth and who is purchasing organic food?

Organic food was once only available at health food stores, marketed to consumers willing to pay extra for natural, environmentally friendly foods. Today, it's available at most grocers. People who buy organic are seeking assurance that food production is gentle to the earth, and/or they're looking for safer, purer, more natural foods. But with today's shrinking dollar, is buying organic worth the extra cost?
Organic foods seem to fit with and appeal to many of the current key traits, concerns and values of the
Canadian population - those who purchase organics range from the health-conscious teenagers, to
concerned mothers, to aging baby boomers. Organic consumers are educated, found in any age group and
likely at both the high and the low-income range. They are no longer merely the stereotyped sixty's flower
child. Not only are organic consumers becoming mainstream, but so also are the channels for purchasing
organic products, clearly seen in trends within the US and Canada. And, with the US sizing up Canada as a
viable destination market, it is clear that organics offer growth opportunities and are here to stay.

It’s a list that is already staggering. You can view the list of non-synthetic and non-organic ingredients that can be added to organic food and still receive the organic label here. The last meeting heralded in three new synthetic substances to the list: carrageenan, choline, and inositol .
As an organic food company, we believe strongly in the many advantages organic food brings to our families and the Earth we share. We know that there is debate about whether organic is more nutritious than conventional. All of the above goes way beyond nutrients. We’re focused on the evidence available supporting the benefits achieved when kids consume organic foods. When it comes to making products for your littlest ones, we prefer not to take any risks. As parents ourselves, we wouldn't have it any other way.

That’s because children’s bodies are delicate, amazing, beautiful works in progress. Their immune and detoxification systems are still developing. Their organs and brains are still growing. Exposure to any food-borne hazards during these periods of growth has the potential to cause more harm than it might in a fully grown adult. Kids eat more food (and breathe more air and drink more water) than adults on a pound-for-pound basis, which exposes them to greater levels of harmful and potentially harmful substances relative to their body size.

Importance of Organic Food's for Cancer:

According to the American Cancer Society, there is no evidence that these residues increase the risk of cancer. In fact, overwhelming scientific evidence supports an anti-cancer diet that includes non-organic fruits and vegetables.Despite this, many people feel safer avoiding pesticides and chemical residues in their foods. Yet many people are deterred from an all-organic diet due to their higher price.

Cancer patients may also consider nutritional supplements, especially for the times when they feel they cannot eat enough. Although certain nutrient supplements may not work as well as whole foods, there is a general feeling that taking recommended doses of certain vitamins can assist the process in most cases. Many of these are available in liquid or powder form which can be incorporated into a blender drink. Consult your doctor or dietitian for more information.

No matter what the symptoms of the treatment, a person with cancer should try to maintain a positive attitude toward maintaining their diet. A change in one's diet "because the doctor told me to" is the easiest and least helpful attitude, while eating better "because I want to do everything I can to beat this thing" is much more productive. After all, any cancer patient who tries to keep a good diet is contributing to his or her treatment as much as the medical professional. This is one area in which the patient can feel some sense of control and involvement; two things that many feel are lost during the treatment process. Also, keeping a good nutritional state can help people with cancer feel and look better and can help them maintain the physical strength to optimize day-to-day life. Because, in the end, this battle is fought day-to-day, and the best assistance the patient can provide is good nutrition and a positive attitude.

For those with changes in taste, dietitians have developed many different suggestions to make meals more palatable. Always rinse your mouth before eating. Serve meats chilled rather than hot, and try to substitute poultry, fish, eggs, and cheese for red meat. Another substitute for red meat: milk shakes, puddings, ice cream, cheese, and other high-protein foods. Lemon-flavored drinks will stimulate saliva and taste, but avoid artificial lemon and use sweeteners sparingly.
As radiation treatments produce composition, it may not be possible to tolerate acidic foods or strongly spiced foods, as treatment progresses. Finally, use disposable plastic utensils if patient experiences unpleasant metallic tastes while eating.
